‘A journal of formally promiscuous non-fiction’

Tolka is a non-fiction literary journal featuring ‘essays, reportage, travel writing, auto-fiction, individual stories and the writing that flows in between.’ As a team, Tolka encourage submissions that don’t fit the usual ‘literary journal’ boxes. Instead, experimentation is encouraged as a way to ‘test the creative boundaries of non-fiction.’

This latest issue showcases a cinematic scene by artist Jessica Brilli on the front cover, and inside features written work by Jan Carson, J.S. Loveard, Georgie Evans, Sara Baume, and more. Elsewhere, readers can expect an interview with Palestinian historian and author Rashid Khalidi, as well as raw testimonies from survivor’s of the October 7 attacks in Israel, which marked the beginning of the war in Gaza in 2023, collected by Syrian writer and journalist Samar Yazbek.
