'Critical and creative engagements with dance'

Launched in 2022 as a finite trilogy, this is Motor Dance Journal. Bookish in size, this neatly put together journal explores dance both critically and creatively, meaning (really) that there's something in here for everyone — whether your hips lie or not.

This dusty-red sophomore edition is themed 'Duets and Dialogues', which carries on nicely from their first edition, which explored the notion of 'the solo' (and asked, 'Is a soloist ever really dancing alone?') This question blurs pleasingly into the second edition, its duets and its dialogues.

Inside, you'll find contributions from 'a diverse array of choreographers, writers, artists, curators, and poets' including Yvonne Rainer, Joan Jonas, Eiko Otake, Lynne Tillman, Collier Schorr, Holly Blakey, Jimmy Robert, Alessandra Sanguinetti, Paul Maheke, Laurie Anderson, Susan Finlay, Beatrice Gibson, Florence Peake and Eve Stainton.

On the Journal
At work with Hannah and Isabelle: ‘There exist plenty of magazines for film enthusiasts, or those with an interest in literature, design and art but there is little dedicated entirely to dance. There are of course some exceptions to this, but, by and large, it felt to us that dance had been sidelined from printed matter.’
