Sticky is a new magazine dreamt up by a cohort of students from the Media School at London College of Communication, showcasing a defiant celebration of creative community, honing in on instances of its abundance rather than absence. A quote from the influential thinker bell hooks illustrates the ethos of Sticky: ‘To provoke thought, to stir people up, to make them want to participate in the shaping of their destiny.’
This inaugural edition features colour photography running throughout, riffing off the newspaper format in its almost A3 size. Inside, Claire Kozlayová pens a report from Soho Reading Series—the events organiser synonymous with London’s new literary scene—investigating its hedonistic reputation; Kiera Forse delves into the resilience of free party culture, acknowledging the skilled riggers constructing sound systems on both a countercultural and institutional level for gigs, concerts, and festivals; and Muna Farah heads south to report on Camberwell’s thriving record store and gig venue Dash the Henge on this year’s internationally celebrated Record Store Day.
Why Sticky? Because of the bonds that form on ‘the sticky carpets and floors of clubs and small gig venues’ home to these burgeoning communities.
