New sustainable fashion annual Camille uniquely straddles the intersection between scientific research, speculative fiction and fashion design, providing an innovative lens through which to ‘reimagine the future of fashion’. This inaugural issue explores the concept of sympoiesis (‘making-with’) as a framework for envisioning non-hierarchical ‘creation grounded in interdependence’. Divided into two halves, the issue opens with a four-part fictional reinterpretation of Camille’s namesake: philosopher Donna Haraway’s ‘The Camille Stories’, the final chapter of her genre-defying 2016 book ‘Staying with the Trouble: Making Kin in the Chthulucene’. Elsewhere, readers will find conversations with CSM graduate and biodesigner Andrea Carrera, Rootfull bio-design studio founder and former underwater photographer Zena Holloway, biocouture artist, innovator and material specialist Alice Potts—pioneer of sweat crystallisation, a solution for turning bodily waste into wearables—and self-described ‘Mold Queen’ Dasha Plesen.
