Commonplace is a new photography zine marrying the minds behind The Modernist magazine and East London based UHM! Publishing. The result is a slick editorial project devoted to the unassuming modernist landmarks across Britain and Ireland that furnish our everyday lives.
This third edition—shot by photographer Lisa Banks—is a nostalgic excavation of the typology of our dwindling or shuttered high street banks. As Banks observes in her introduction, these physical manifestations of capital—often adorned with quality hardware—once embodied ‘the might of the financial sector and invited us to feel confident in trusting them with our cash.’
Readers can expect both the ornate and the ordinary packed into this small format zine printed on thick matte paper stock, and bookended by high gloss front and back covers.
