‘The magazine for modernists’

The magazine about the seemingly everlasting British subculture of the Mod. Covering style, music, film and fashion from a ‘modernist angle’, Detail includes everything you need to know about the Mod scene, with contributions from the stylish subculture’s insiders. As well as the print mag, each issue includes a Spotify playlist based on the content inside.

This Autumn 2026 issue stars James Taylor of the James Taylor Quartet on the cover, accompanied by an interview inside delving into the origin story of the group, class dynamics within Mod culture, and his latest album ‘The Truth’.

Elsewhere, John Earls reminisces about ‘Jazz 625,’ a British TV programme broadcasting the music of jazz pioneers including Thelonius Monk, Duke Ellington, and Dizzy Gillespie, for two years in the sixties; editor Claudia Elliot meets cutting edge hairdresser Leslie Cavendish to discuss his career mixing with Terence Stamp, Keith Moon, and various Beatles; and Lois Wilson delves into David Bowie’s—aka Davie Jones—tracks produced by Shel Talmy in 1965, recently released on vinyl by Parlophone Records.
