Published since 1967, Flash Art is dedicated to writing and thinking about contemporary art.

This Fall 2026 edition is devoted to the theme of ‘Borders’, featuring a cohort of artists whose work casts a nuanced glance at our preconceived notion of borders as fixed and geopolitical entities, instead honing in on understanding ‘how they are made, inhabited, challenged and continually reimagined.’

Inside, Ela Bittencourt profiles cover star Thea Djordjadze over a series of visits to her studio in Berlin, discussing her oeuvre, the unexpected resonance of certain materials, and her experience studying realist painting in Tbilisi. Elsewhere, Anya Harrison delves into the multimedia world of artist Tolia Astakhishvili whose installations explore ‘the structure of space’ and human experience, spanning painting, drawing, sculpture, sound and moving image; and Amy Jones examines Yalda Afsah’s cinematic practice, exploring her new films based around the intersection between the elements and traditional religious ceremonies.
