‘Chic and based since 1980’

Editor-in-chief Thom Bettridge signs off his final issue of the magazine with the Mothers issue, explaining that ‘once you start thinking about it, you start seeing matriarchs everywhere.’ He describes all four cover stars—Giselle, Bundchen, 2Hollis, Mia Goth and Katharine Hamnett—as mothers, and links his role on the mag to that of mother.

We’re proud to be the exclusive stockist of the Hamnett cover; inside she and artist Jonny Banger compare notes on the various political tees they’ve each designed. Her career began at the same time as i-D first appeared, so she’s an appropriate subject for the Mother issue.

Also in the packed issue: the other cover stars, Slayyyter, Los Javis, Lefty Korine, Sophie Thatcher, John Glacier and much, much more.

On the Podcast:
Hear i-D founder Terry Jones discuss the magazine’s 40-year history on episode 22 of the magCulture Podcast.
