‘The coldest magazine on earth’

Created by photographer Renell Medrano, Ice Magazine is a bold new publication dedicated to celebrating the ‘around-the-way girl’. Born out of Medrano’s retrospective exhibition in her hometown of New York City, the project evolved into a magazine that centres on women’s sensuality and self-expression. Drawing inspiration from Players, the 1970s softcore magazine, Medrano reimagines the genre through the female gaze—the all-female creative team seek to create a space where women can see themselves reflected authentically. With striking photography and punchy graphic design, each issue revolves around a single editorial shoot featuring a collective of women.

For this sophomore issue, Ice heads to Atlanta, spotlighting a cast of ‘Georgia Peaches’. Interviews with the ten women—including rapper and singer Eve—explore ideas of beauty, female sensuality, self-confidence and, of course, what it means to be an ‘Ice Girl’. The issue’s central pages feature mock advertisements, a custom word search and a cut-out stencil that invites the reader to imagine themselves as the next Ice cover star. Plus, a glossy two-sided pull-out poster and playful sticker sheet round off the icy offerings!
