This is the fifth edition of London-based literary title New Papers; its launch coincides with the magazine’s one year anniversary. Initially aiming to publish an ambitious issue per month, it has since developed into a more considered quarterly. Unassuming in its form and provocative in content, it features a trifold wraparound that functions as both graphic masthead (front panel) and editor’s note (front & back panel). Each issue is accompanied by a complementary live reading, animating the host of eccentric characters who inhabit its unembellished pages.
Combining fiction and poetry, issue five contains seven new pieces of prose and poetry, each a testament to the malleability of linguistics and the written word’s capacity to evoke vibrant worlds beyond the monochrome confines of the page.
On the Journal
At work with Colton Karpman: ‘I dislike the idea of influencing or casting a shadow over a reader’s engagement with the contents of each issue. As always, New Papers remains a paragon of objectivity and impartiality. The Editor’s Note achieves its goal insofar as it as unobtrusively as possible introduces the issue to the reader.’
