This is the third volume of the Commonplace: A South London Landscape History riso-printed zine series, a bucolic editorial project devoted to excavating the history of ancient commons across South London, and illuminating them as ‘the key to the landscape’ through a blend of ecology, psychogeography, architecture, testimonies, and poetry.
This latest edition is devoted to the deep rooted history between One Tree Hill nature reserve and Peckham Rye Common, pieced together by landscape historian John Gray, who observes that ‘the one only makes sense in terms of the other.’ What follows is a narrative and detailed account of the landscape past and present, accompanied by atmospheric shots from London–based photographer Sam Walton.
