‘A travel magazine of journey and contemplation’

A nostalgia-heavy travel magazine from Japan filled with hazy photo essays and personal accounts of journeys taken. Its name, Polaris, refers to the ways in which people used to use the stars to guide them (predating Tripadvisor).

This third issue, themed ‘Traveling the Borderlands: In an Era of Division and Disconnection’, debuts a larger format and journeys across the globe to explore and attempt to understand the fractures that are seemingly defining our times. Through evocative photography, thoughtful design and rich reportage, its pages travel from America to La Gomera, central Chile and Taimagura, exploring the people and perspectives that inhabit the borderlands. Elsewhere, discover a selection of theme-inspired book recommendations from the Polaris editorial team, a film list curated by ‘The Dry Years’ director Anton Starbucchi, and an introductory artist guide from photographer Cala Del Río.
