‘Cycling culture’
Independent road cycling staple Rouleur totes itself as ‘the finest cycling journal in the world’. The name? Rouleur [roo-ler] ‘a rider with strength and style who goes hard on all terrain’.
Titled ‘Vive le Tour!’, Rouleur’s 144th issue is awash in joyful sunshine yellow—a nod both to the season and to the Tour de France’s coveted ‘yellow jersey’, awarded to the rider with the fastest overall time. Split into three sections, ‘Départ’ commences with a roasted vegetable, burrata and hazelnut pesto recipe by Château de Saint-Martory head chef Otavio Barreto—evoking the colours and flavours of the season—whilst three-time champion Greg Lemond opens up about life post-retirement and the state of cycling today. In section two, ‘Échapée’, Tristan Reece takes readers on a ‘linguistic tour de France’, spanning the distinct regions on the full 3,333km route of the upcoming 113th instalment of the tour, four professional riders recount the moment their race ended prematurely, and Dan Challis profiles the Mexican rising star Isaac del Toro, as he gears up to put his country ‘back on the racing map’. Rounding off the issue, in ‘Arrivée’ Alice Jackson touches base with adventurous couple Amy and Kyle Hudson as they prepare to embark on an 18,000 mile global expedition. Bon voyage!
