‘Cycling culture’
Independent road cycling staple Rouleur touts itself as ‘the finest cycling journal in the world.’ The name? Rouleur, ‘a rider with strength and style who goes hard on all terrain’.
This 146th issue spotlights a cohort of adventurous cyclists, who won’t back down from a challenge. In his editorial Ian Cleverly fittingly reminisces on a spontaneous biking holiday to Ireland, and shares his newfound love for gravel bikes: ‘Sometimes, it’s great to be proved wrong,’ he says.
Inside, five riders across all categories of cycling, from marathon to ultra distance, share their favourite gravel terrain to traverse, in a colourful feature illustrated by Elena Mompó; a historic change in destination for the Vuelta a España, which saw riders roll into Granada this year, prompted the team to venture across Andalusia to explore the religious history of this Southern Spanish landscape; and journalist Douwe den Held cycles the Ruta del Che—a trail through Bolivia that retraces the footsteps of the infamous revolutionary Che Guevara in his final months—to discover ‘what his story tells us about Bolivia then and now.’
