Netherlands-based arts and culture publication Simulacrum explores a different theme with every issue. Platforming topics from both historical and contemporary perspectives, their features are written by both established experts and up-and-coming writers (student writers are welcome here).
Formerly petite, recent issues have seen the magazine reshaped into a new tall and slim format. This time, that tall, slim body is black and white. On the theme, ‘Little Man, What Now?’, the team write:
‘Authoritarian movements are no longer gestating; they are governing. Elsewhere, military technologies are becoming increasingly embedded in civic life. The language of emergency has become permanent. Against this backdrop, the question what now? recognises that familiar scripts—progress, equality, dignity—can no longer be assumed.’
