In this latest issue for September/October 2026, The Funambulist takes a critical look at the complexities, political realities and fantasies of diasporic life between homeland and host nations. On the cover, Gwadeloupean artist Kelly Sinnapah Mary explores the journey of her ancestors in her home archipelago, asking what it means to be displaced and reshaped by a new geography and culture. Inside, find personal and political reflections by Assia Tamerdjent on romanticised ideas of Algeria; Yoletti Bracho and Minh Nguyen reflect on the complex political stances of Vietnamese and Venezuelan diasporas in a letter exchange; and Zola Chichmintseva-Kondamambou reconstructs the history of Congolese students in the Soviet Union.
