The Myconauts #4

148 x 210 mm, 44 pages

Annual
First published in 2023
Created by: Gemma Dunnell

‘Mycology, ecology, community’

A sweet and earnest little publication entirely created by illustrator Gemma Dunnell, Myconauts is for those who ‘care for, and want to explore, the natural world.’

This fourth issue is themed ‘Ritual Magic,’ and features a host of wholesome stories, illustrations and poetry on ‘the seen and unseen forces that transform the world around us.’ Commencing with a charmingly illustrated and informative deep dive into fairy rings—the circular formations of fungi that crop up time and again in folktales—elsewhere readers will find a conversation between Myconauts creator Gemma Dunnell and historian Hadley Wehner on medieval graffiti in St Albans, a poem by Peter Holmes, and a handy guide to the many creatures that inhabit moss forests.

Fun fact: The name Myconauts is a portmanteau of ‘Myco’—mushroom—and ‘Naut’—a suffix for explorer.
