‘The world overheard’

Translator is a new magazine of journalism and reportage from around the world, translated into English, for the open minded and the language-curious. Produced by a small team in London in collaboration with international network of journalists, writers, translators and photographers, it brings together translated long-form reportage, original writing about the word on the street in cities around the world, criticism, reviews and more.

What makes the launch doubly exciting for us is the fact that the magazine has been been designed and art directed here at the magCulture Studio—we’ve been quietly developing this debut issue alongside the editorial team for the past year!

Inside, find features on a penguin massacre in Patagonia, Cambodian cyberscam compounds, a seminal Sri Lankan film, and minority languages in Russia; a photo essay from Sudan; Sophia Smith Galer on linguistic nativism in the US; and an excerpt from Abraham Jiménez Enoa’s new book The Hidden Island. With plenty more, for anyone who wants to read the world differently, whether they speak one language or five.
