True Photo Journal is a large-format photography journal showcasing unpublished personal projects from established and emerging photographers, with the invitation to ‘experiment, create or revisit.’ Unconstrained by commercial focus, it sets different parameters for the creative conversation between publication and contributor.
This latest issue is the journal’s 12th, and sees it published in hardback for the third time. It opens with a series of tasteful black and white nudes by Matthew Tammaro, experimenting with unusual angles and close framing in order to disrupt clichés of the erotic.
From there, it’s a conversation between Los Angeles-based photographer Carlos Jaramillo and the author Reginald Moore, alongside intimate portraits of the community at the heart of his ongoing South Central project. Plus, further conversations between Erinn Springer and Bill Shapiro, Danny Lyon and Rahim Fortune, Myriam Boulos and Lillian Wilkie, Daniel Shea and Catherine Lacey, and Jesse Glazzard and Gem Fletcher.
