‘A music community for those that dig deeper’

Created by a group of writers and record diggers and relaunched in 2021, Wax Poetics is a cult music mag featuring ‘trailblazers, cultures and stories that shape the sounds of yesterday, today, and beyond,’ spanning hip-hop, funk, techno, tropicalia, jazz, and more. As they put it, ‘whether you’re a record head, or just starting to explore your passion for music, you’ll find something here for you.’

This issue is another double-sided affair, this issue features legends Mariah Carey on the front and Tupac Shakur on the reverse. We hear about the Queen of Christmas’s rise from the beginnings of her remarkable career and a accompanied by archival imagery, while Tupac’s story returns to his early days as part of his high school collective, ‘Born Busy’.

Elsewhere, discover the story of New Orleans family run institution Peaches Records; the new Roland TR-1000 Rhythm Creator drum machine; former Little Dragon front woman Yukimi Nagano; and Nightmare on Wax founder George Evelyn’s newest project, Echo45 Sound System. Plus, interviews with Brooklyn-born DJ, producer and label owner Victor Simonelli; DJ, producer and boradcaster Coleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy; and filmmaker and artist Charlie Ahearn.
