Fantastic Man #13
The latest Fantastic Man is in the shops, boasting ‘the world’s most famous man’, David Beckham, on the cover. Alistair McLellan took the pictures earlier this year in Shoreditch, London.
The presence of Beckham is fascinating as sportsmen of his stature can generally ignore all interview requests, only agreeing to those linked to sponsorship deals. As far as I can see from the issue this is a proper interview, and a smart move by the man and his advisors to hone his credibility as a style icon.
Alongside Beckham the issue maintains the magazine’s combination of intelligently selected subjects (Michael Stipe, publisher of The Independent Evgeny Lebedev, Tate director Chris Dercon) and subtly ironic verbal tone (the inserted slip, above, promoting their daily online updates).
Watch out for imminent news from EDO about a Fantastic Man event.
