magCulture Meets The Shelf Journal
For our final magCulture Meets of 2017, we’re delighted to be welcoming The Shelf Journal to the magCulture Shop on Thursday 7 December.
The beautifully produced French-English annual review of the art of books is a rare mix of design perfection and intellectual weight. It celebrates ‘the cult of the shelf’, exploring the different questions that relate to the contents and the shapes of books, their creation and collection, by showing both ancient and contemporary examples.
We’ll be launching the brand new issue five at this event, with founders Colin Caradec and Morgane Rébulard joining us from Paris to talk through the issue, which includes Peter Saville, Ed Ruscha and an interview with the man behind Plethora Magazine (while the focus is on books, the journal regularly features magazines too).
As well as pulling out highlights from the new issue, Colin and Morgane will be presenting a broader look at the magazine’s content and design which includes different finishing techniques for each issue, and the delightful graphic device of every cover’s graphic shelf slowly filling up with books issue by issue (see the first four covers, above).
Read our review of issue four of the magazine.
The talk will be followed by an audience Q&A.

Doors opens at 6.30pm and the talk will kick off at 7pm
