magRush 01: Root + Bone
Published by a London-based group of chefs, designers and photographers Root + Bone is a bound sub-A4 newsprint publication that has a pretty catholic mix of content. Distributed free around London, this is a real foodie magazine – the makers clearly love their food – and mixes traditional fare (restaurant reviews and recipes) with the more exotic (how to tattoo your pork roast before cooking it). And there’s that cake by the wonderfully named Lily Vanilli on the cover. It’s a beautifully designed and considered publication that is an interesting diversion from the many magazines today that use food as a cultural reference point rather than as a fact of life.
