Making Magazines 2012, the magazine
If you attended the Making Magazines 2012 event in aid of the St Bride Foundation back in March 2012 you should now have received your copy of the magazine Simon Esterson and I promised you as part of the event. It took a long time coming but I hope you agree is worth the wait. If you weren’t at the event, we now have a few copies available for sale, with all profits going to St Bride.
Created on the day as a unique record of the talks and discussions at Making Magazines 2012, and with the whole line-up represented, the publication features many key editorial figures. A sign of the times is how many of them have moved to new roles in the intervening 18 months. Its structure reflects the running order of the day, and includes reports on Andrew Diprose (Wired, Ride Journal), Danny Miller (ex-The Church of London, Little White Lies), Gill Hudson (ex-Reader’s Digest), Matt Curtis (The Times, ex-Eureka), Russell Davies (The Newspaper Club)…
…Marissa Bourke (late of Elle, now Harper’s Bazaar)…
…and just as on the day the longer talks were split up with a series of briefer talks about favourite magazines, the magazine has a series of spreads detailing people’s favourites (above)…
…and the final report features illustrator Christoph Niemann’s entertaining finale to the day.
You can also find out a bit about the history of St Bride, their letterpress workshops and hear from some of the attendees about the day.
