This week we meet editor/writer David Michon, who launched a newsletter, For Scale, about design and decor, in 2022. He has now added a printed broadsheet to expand the project, explaining ‘I don’t believe For Scale is ‘just’ a Substack, I wanted to show that it was more.’ He explains more as he sahres his working week.

Ex-journalist Tom Rowley opened Backstory in south London a couple of years ago, one of a wave of new, independent bookshops that are opening across the UK. He has now followed that up with a beautiful little magazine of the same name, combining his writing and retail experience to cover both books and bookshops.

On a mission to bring true Indonesian food to the world, Rahel Stephanie runs London’s sell-out supper club Spoons and has just launched a zine, Pedas. A mix of recipes and musings about Rahel’s Jakarta roots, it has been vividly designed to express the spice of the cuisine. She tells us more as she shares her week ahead.

 

It’s always exciting to see a new magazine tackle an overlooked subject, but even better when that magazine does so with a panache that wins over the reader.
