This visual zine presents an abstract, impressionistic idea of the US as portrayed in Don DeLillo’s novel ‘Underworld.’ The book looks back at the second half of the twentieth century, recounting in a plot-free structure the ups and downs of an era of US commercial and political dominance.
The zine is a visual response to DeLillo’s word pictures, using imagery sourced online: US bombers lined up on the ground, Mikhail Gorbachev, the JFK shooting, sixties fashion, the two towers being erected… and on the front cover, Lenny Bruce.
It’s a neat idea, well executed.
