‘Cultural figures and mysticism’

Printed on newsprint, each issue of the Paris-based Blue Moon brings together a mix of artists, musicians, filmmakers, photographers and writers ‘that are, or began on the margins; figures and harbingers of subcultural movements.’

This latest issue of Blue Moon delves into the paradox of using physical mediums to convey concepts that are transcendent and immaterial themselves, as editor-in-chief Leah Gudmundson reflects: ‘We scrawl our names on a wall to remind ourselves we were here for a fleeting moment.’ Thus, this edition hones in on how the featured artists harness their respective mediums to impart meaning, and express concepts that seem ineffable.

Inside, Gudmundson sits down with cover artist Steven Shearer to discuss his trademark style of oil painting brimming with references to music and art history, and the timeless potential of art to convey emotion; NTS radio host Flo Dill interviews indie musician Molly Nilsson, delving into the sanctity of living alone, outdated perceptions of the ‘lonely’ female artist, and Nilsson’s new subscription-based print zine; and an interview with alt-literature household name Francesca Lia Block explores the romantic plight of the characters in her latest novel ‘House of Hearts’.
