‘A Portable Printed Exhibition Space’
Pina is a fascinating publication that collaborates with artists to commission two ‘exhibitions’ across the magazine’s pages.
This third edition of Pina spotlights the work of American Artist—their adopted legal name chosen to accentuate the themes of their practice—and London-based artist C.B. Evans.
Artist presents ‘Power Grid’, an analysis of contemporary social stratifications plotted over four axes—Poverty, Wealth, Captivity and Freedom—illustrated by specific behaviours such as ‘Being in love’, ‘Night school attendance’ and ‘Recreational space travel’, accompanied by screenshots from striking news broadcasts and TV footage. Meanwhile, C.B. Evans shares ‘For Your Consideration’, a framework and story board for an imagined feature film set in a version of 2026 without the internet complete with character profiles and excerpts from the script. Both artists sit in conversation with writers Che Gossett and Dean Spade respectively, and you’ll also find short stories from Lola Olufemi and Orion J Facey.
