Works in Progress #26

210 x 270 mm, 128 pages
London, UK
Bimonthly
Editor-in-chief: Sam Bowman
Art director: Atalanta Arden-Miller

Works in Progress is a bimonthly magazine exploring ‘new and underrated ideas to improve the world,’ linked to Irish-American finance technology company Stripe. Starting life as an online publication, the magazine made its first foray into print in 2025.

This 26th issue arrives with a series of design tweaks, including the introduction of thick matte paper, Roslindale font, and an abundance of colourful flourishes. Inside, Stephen Kotkin delves into the collapse of the USSR through the prism of its leaders’ wavering belief in the communist system, and Aria Schrecker predicts a return to ‘1930s dating’ in lieu of casual sex among younger generations. Elsewhere, Samuel Hughes pens an extended article delving into the hard partying, close knit community of the Victorian elite, evaluating their unconventional leadership style, and Hughes and Phoebe Arslanagic unearth the forgotten formula for beautiful cities dreamt up by architect Camillo Sitte in 1889.

Plus, sample a selection of newspaper style columns including classifieds, letters to the editors, and a crossword section, new to this edition.
