‘Exploring Desire’
Erotic Review was first published as a bimonthly magazine in 1997, and then relaunched in 2024 as an art and literary platform that explores desire in its many forms and complexities. For editor Lucy Roeber, the relaunch presented an opportunity to explore ‘a different discourse’ reflective of the shift in society’s attitude towards sex and desire—highlighting the belief that ‘our erotic lives inflect our entire existence’.
Marking a departure from previous editions, the fourth issue features a solo guest artist, acclaimed multi-disciplinary Irish artist and fashion designer Richard Malone, whose manipulation of materials emphasises the physicality of the erotic. Richard’s sinuous and ambiguous forms—weaved throughout the issue—reveal that desire is far from apolitical, indexing the stratified gender and class structures that ‘underpin our intimate engagement with the world and with each other’. Another brilliant collection of writing addressing modern sexuality and desire from multiple angles; expect short fiction, essays, photography, personal reflections and more.
