Since its 2004 launch, Garment—the official annual publication from the Amsterdam Fashion Institute (AMFI)—has examined a single piece of clothing each issue, covering everything from the scarf to the leather jacket. Produced by graduating students, every issue features a new masthead, resulting in a dynamic design ethos.
This 2026 edition is themed ‘The Last(ing) Issue’, and sadly marks the magazine’s final instalment after 23 years in print. Instead of focusing on an individual garment, Garment returns to its raison d’être: ‘Wanting to challenge the systems around fashion and reclaim it as an optimistic space for meaning and passion.’ Central to the issue is the question of endurance—‘can fashion last?’—with featured stories exploring sentimentality, intentionally distressed clothing, fashion’s obsession with the binary of novelty and nostalgia, sustainability, and the tension between fashion and art. Elsewhere, Leah Oosterwolde interviews AMFI Fashion & Design graduate Milou Schreuder, and Noor Rasch documents a week of capsule wardrobe outfits, interspersed with joyful fashion editorials that strike an optimistic chord.
