Fantastic Man #24
The latest 306-page Fantastic Man has many of the ingredients we’ve come to expect from the magazine: the latest fashion superstar Demna Gvsalia shot by Inez & Vinoodh on the cover; inside, a fashion shoot alongside the urinals at Hackney Picturehouse; another shoot that uses utterly blurred images of models to hint at the season’s colour combinations; and profiles of theatre director Ivo van Howe, musician Devonté Hynes and artist Jordan Wolfson. All served up with generous servings of tongue-in-cheek wit and Founders Grotesk.
But our highlight, for it’s magazine connection as much as its self-depricating humour, is this shoot by Benjamin Alexander Huseby featuring Jack Self, the man behind favourite new mag Real Review. Jack is shot at the building site of what was once the BBC Televison Centre in west London. The story is positioned as a ‘site inspection,’ and alongside the clothes credits Jack gets to offer some Real Review-style commentary. And in the process parodies himself, the host magazine, his magazine and the whole process of making fashion. Top work!
